Show and Shine draws crowds
The guttural thrum and growl of muscle cars and classics flexing their engines filled the air at Sunday’s Show & Shine as hundreds wandered down Goldstream avenue admiring the automotive array.
Dale Mackie’s 1926 Cadillac limo in particular gathered spectators like bees to honey. Sold new by the Begg Brothers in Victoria, the Cadillac has a colourful history, including working for a 1920’s nightclub in Vancouver, serving as an ambulance in World War II, and being used by the Dunsmuirs. The car is so rare, said Mackie, that after he’d finished restoring it, his appraiser couldn’t find another one to compare it to.
Rows of Mustangs, Camaros, old Ford pickups and roadsters lined the street and circled the fountain, and one Volkswagen deluxe bus even made an appearance. The show, in its fourth year, celebrated classic and muscle cars from 1975 and earlier and was a great success.
