Gallery 7 Theatre will hold open auditions for William Golding’s Lord of the Flies on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The play will be the theatre’s first production of the 2014/15 Refined by Fire Theatre Season.

The auditions take place at 6:30 p.m. at Gallery 7 Theatre’s new rehearsal hall at Huntingdon Station, #100 – 34595 Third Ave. in Abbotsford.

They are open to all male performers ages 12 to 40. Those interested in working behind the scenes are also invited to attend the auditions.

Call-back auditions will be held Sept. 4, and rehearsals will begin the week of Sept. 8.

The production marks the 60th anniversary of the William Golding novel, which takes place in the midst of nuclear war, when an airplane carrying English school boys crashes on a deserted island.

Forced to fend for themselves, the survivors attempt to scrape together a civilized society governed by simple rules and regulations.

Afflicted by fear of an evil beast lurking on the island, and as the lust for power and control takes over, the cadre’s fragile paradise quickly disintegrates into savage and violent anarchy.

“Lord of the Flies is really a forefather to such books as The Hunger Games and Divergent,” said Ken Hildebrandt, executive/artistic director of Gallery 7 Theatre.

“There is so much to be mined, thematically speaking, that it’s a perfect fit for our first production of the season and our new performance venue at the Abbotsford Arts Centre.”

Lord of the Flies, directed by Hildebrandt, will run Nov. 7, 8, 13-15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Abbotsford Arts Centre, 2329 Crescent Way.

Discount matinees take place Nov. 8 and 15 at 2 p.m.

Season passes are available through the theatre’s website or by contacting the House of James (2743 Emerson St.) at 604-852-3701.
