Police ask driver to step forward

West Shore RCMP are looking for a driver in connection to an accident.

Officers attended an accident scene July 8 at 4:10 p.m. involving a silver Dodge SUV and a 39-year-old male cyclist at an intersection of Island Highway. The cyclist was struck by the SUV turning left off the highway onto Helmcken Rd.

The male driver of the SUV is described as a six-foot tall Caucasian male with a darker complexion, a grey sleeveless t-shirt and black shorts with a red band of colouring.

"We are asking the male driver of the SUV to contact the West Shore RCMP detachment and speak to our investigators," said Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz. "It doesn't come across as a malicious situation. It appears the person did stop and render assistance, but he still needs to provide those details."

The injured cyclist received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance as a precautionary measure.
