Summer camps are in full swing and a youth from Abbotsford will experience a summer of adventure and challenge as a staff cadet at the Cold Lake Cadet Summer Training Centre in Alberta.

Samantha Rummel is a warrant officer second class at 861 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Abbotsford during the regular cadet training year from September to June; however ranks change during summer camp to reflect cadet staff positions.

After a week-long evaluation, Rummel was selected as the top staff cadet out of a possible 96 candidates and was promoted to Cadet Training Centre chief warrant officer. A leader amongst peers, Rummel will motivate and guide other staff cadets while being mentored by cadet instructor cadre officers; adults who specialize in working with young people to implement the cadet program.

Rummel began her summer camp late June and will return home mid-August where new experiences and added skills will be brought back to friends and family and applied to future endeavours.
