Grand reopening of Tulista Park playground this weekend
SIDNEY — The Sidney Lions Club and the Town of Sidney are unveiling the new playground equipment in Tulista Park this weekend.
The new gear, valued at $70,000, was funded 50/50 by the Lions and the Town, explained Lions member, Bob Orchard.
“It’s all new, wheelchair accessible equipment,” explained Orchard, adding that the new structure even features a small climbing wall.
The Sidney Lions Club, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, were approached by the Town of Sidney over two years ago and asked if they’d be interested in the project. For their 40th anniversary, the Lions replaced another portion of Tulista Park’s playground equipment.
“[The new equipment] will be an anniversary gift for the community,” said Lion Alyson DesLauriers of the project.
The grand opening, which will feature a ceremony and ribbon cutting by Sidney’s Mayor Larry Cross, takes place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28. Following the ceremony, a barbecue by donation featuring hot dogs, juice and pop, will take place.
