Fairmont Lions give for regional health care
Lions Clubs plan and participate in a wide variety of service projects that meet the international goal of Lions Clubs international as well as the needs of their local community.
For the Fairmont Lions Club they take that dedication one step further with a commitment to seeing quality health care with donations dedicated toward both the Invermere & District Hospital and the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
“The Fairmont Lions Club continues to have a major impact on health care not just for the Columbia Valley but for the region as well,” explained EKFH Executive Director Donna Grainger. “This latest gift of $1,500 is being dedicated for equipment for the ophthalmology department.
Lions focus on work for the blind and visually impaired began when Helen Keller addressed the international convention at Cedar Point, Ohio, on 30 June 1925 and charged Lions to be Knights of the Blind.
The $1,500 gift will be stewarded by EKFH and is anticipated to be joined with other funding from a combined Lions Clubs project (Fairmont, Lake Windermere, Wasa & Golden) later in the summer.
To date the Fairmont Lions Club has dedicated $37,760 to health care in the East Kootenay. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Fairmont Lions Club or wish to help out at one of their events contact Sharon Tanguay, Secretary at 250 409-9516.
