Fish for free this weekend.

It’s the 15th Annual Family Fishing Weekend in B.C.

In Chilliwack, everyone is invited to join anglers heading to the Cultus Lake Pikeminnow Derby on Saturday, June 14.  No fishing licence is required for one day only.

There are $2,000 in derby prizes for those catching fish, as well as donated merchandise and swag to be won.

The event is hosted by the Cultus Lake Aquatic Stewardship Strategy (CLASS) team, with support from the Fraser River Salmon Table, BC Family Fishing and sponsors.

The fun at Cultus Lake main beach starts at 6 a.m. and runs until 12 noon. Weigh-ins of pikeminnow start at 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., with prize draws to follow.

The province waives fishing licence fees at this time every year allowing families to fish lakes, rivers, streams and tidal waters for free, compliments of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).
