Celebrate Father’s Day with the Cultus Lake Pikeminnow Derby

If you’re still looking for ways to express fondness for the father in your life, consider handing him a fishing pole and sending him down to Cultus Lake for the day to compete in the Annual Cultus Lake Pikeminnow Fishing Derby.

As an added bonus, there’s no fishing licence required for the day of the contest, which runs from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking is free for those who get there before 9 a.m. meaning the only cost for an early bird is the ticket, set at $7 for adults and $3 for kids under age 16.

There are a variety of cash prizes up for grabs, including for heaviest pikeminnow, most pike minnow, and mystery weight.

Every entrant automatically gets their name in a draw food a variety of door prizes, and get an additional entry for every pike minnow caught.

• Tickets and more information are available online at www.fraserbasin.bc.ca under news and events, or at Fred’s Custom Tackle, Chilliwack Dart & Tackle, Kent Outdoors, and Cultus Lake Golf Club Pro Shop. Tickets are also available the day of the derby at the beach. The derby takes place on Saturday, June 14, and fishing starts at 6 a.m. at Main Beach. Weigh-in begins at noon, and prizes will be announced at 2 p.m.
