Eight go bald in support of Cops for Cancer
Eight people had their heads shaved at Abbotsford Middle School on Friday as part of the Cops for Cancer fundraiser.
Grade 8 student Johnie Fisher, as part of a school project, chose the endeavour in memory of his best friend Christopher Sperger, who died of cancer in 2007 at the age of seven.
In addition to the eight having their heads shaved, Johnie and school vice-principal Jamie Beck were duct-taped to the flagpoles.
These events raised $638 for Cops for Cancer, which involves law enforcement and emergency services personnel cycling for up to two weeks to raise funds for cancer research and support programs.
The local version is called the Tour de Valley, which this year runs from Sept. 25 to Oct. 3.
Also having their heads shaved on Friday were Johnie's parents Kelly and Ken Fisher; his grandfather Don Brierley; friends Colton and Reed Humbke and their dad Ken; and Abbotsford Police Const. Trevor Sales.
