Red Art ready for a mystery

Unsigned artworks bring a little mystique to Oak Bay this month.

During the Mystery Show at Red Art Gallery, only 40 tickets are available for 40 works by 40 artists, most of them from Oak Bay.

Tickets are $10 and entitle pre-registered buyers to attend the draw, which includes refreshments.

Each artwork is identified only by number and sales are done by lottery, with former Oak Bay mayor Christopher Causton serving as celebrity drawmaster this year.

When a ticket-holder’s name is drawn, he or she has 60 seconds to “red dot” a selection. Each 10-by10-inch work is priced at $295 and ticket-holders are not obligated to make a purchase if a favoured work is already gone.

Last year the Mystery Show sold 33 works in 45 minutes.

The artwork will be up for preview at the gallery and online at redartgallery.ca from June 3 to 7. The lottery starts at 3:30 p.m. sharp on Saturday, June 7.

Tickets can be purchased at the gallery anytime prior to the draw.

Unsold works will be available to purchase on a first come, first served basis June 10 to 14 at Red Art Gallery 2249 Oak Bay Ave.
