Baby-related groups join forces
The Castlegar and Trail perinatal committees (perinatal refers to the time before, during and after the birth of a baby), are pleased to announce that they have recently amalgamated.
The new joint community committee, now the Lower Columbia Perinatal Advisory Committee, consists of local physicians, hospital personal, public health nurses, Canadian Perinatal Nutrition Program facilitators, family support workers, prenatal educators, child development specialists, doulas, midwives and parent representatives.
The committee meets quarterly and discusses what the community needs are for perinatal education and programs as well as dealing with any obvious gaps in perinatal education, services and care. It acts to promote current knowledge of perinatal issues and the need for perinatal education in the wider community. The Lower Columbia Perinatal Advisory committee also works closely with the Selkirk College Prenatal Education Program and the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program (Beautiful Beginnings in Castlegar and Building Beautiful Babies in Trail).
The committee welcomes any community feed back or input regarding local perinatal issues. For more information please contact: Jerri Schmidt, Infant Development Consultant, Kootenay Family Place 250-365-5616 ext 262.
