Delta Toastmasters club rallies around ailing friend
Following a fundraiser, the North Delta Power Talkers Toastmasters club has presented a cheque for $5,085 to a former member who is battling ALS.
Eric Anderson is a former club president and active member, and is father to Sophia, 10, and Dylan 9, and husband to Melanie, a stay-at-home-mother.
The fundraiser was held for the Anderson family on Wednesday, May 21 at the Bombay Banquet Hall in Surrey with the goal of raising enough money to make the Anderson home wheelchair accessible by installing hardwood flooring throughout.
More than 100 people attended the fundraiser, which included an appearance and dedication from Newton-North Delta MP Jinny Sims and a performance by award-winning blind inspirational singer Juggy Jag, who had the crowd dancing before dinner.
ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) – also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, after the New York Yankee who was struck with the condition at the age of 37 – is a progressive and terminal disease that attacks the nervous system.
