Music camp gets girls rocking

Girls wanna rock.

And they’ll get plenty of opportunity this summer at the inaugural Girls Rock Camp Victoria, from July 21-26.

GRCVI has partnered with Larsen Music for the week-long day camp program, where girls ages 8 to 18 will form a band, learn an instrument, and write a song together.

As a feminist-based camp, workshops during the week will feature female-led instruction and activities in song writing, instrument care and technical knowledge, media awareness of how women are portrayed in mainstream culture, silk screening to create band t-shirts, and stage presence.

On the sixth day of the camp program, the bands will perform their song at the Showcase concert in front of an audience at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
