Sidney Taxi at your service
Sidney Taxi is starting small but in only a week’s time, their business has been on the grow.
The new cab company, based in Sidney with its main office and dispatchers on Beacon Avenue, started with a soft opening last week and officially launched over the weekend. Director of Public Relations Malcolm Brailsford says drivers in that short time saw a big jump in passengers.
“Last Monday, one driver did $45 in fares,” he said. “By Wednesday, the same driver did over $200 during his day shift.”
Sidney Taxi is starting with four vehicles — all six to seven passenger vans with one of them accessible to people with disabilities. Brailsford said it’s a 24/7 operation and employs 16 people, many with a lot of experience in the business — from driving to dispatching.
Licensed to pick up fares only on the Saanich Peninsula, Brailsford said they can drive people anywhere.
“This is Sidney’s own taxi company,” he continued. “We’re not affiliated with anyone else and we will be in competition with other cab companies.”
He added local support to date has been great, noting there is a need in the community.
“We can offer a 10-minute ride — for shopping, going to the doctor or out to eat. Competition is good and people expect good service.”
Sidney Taxis — available by calling 250-656-6666 — are decked out in Lamborgini Orange, Brailsford said when asked about the colour choice.
