Local cheesemaker wins national award
Cheese lovers across B.C. have long savoured the handmade artisanal creations from the Farm House Natural Cheeses in Agassiz.
The family-run business has received national recognition as its Farm House Traditional Clothbound Cheddar received awards for Best British Columbia Cheese and Best Aged Cheddar (one to three years) at the inaugural 2014 Canadian Cheese Awards this month in Toronto.
The new competition included 291 cheeses from 76 producers and judging took place at the University of Guelph in Ontario.
Winners were announced at an awards ceremony, reception and tasting gala on April 7 at St. Lawrence Market North in Toronto.
Farm House’s cheeses are created by Debra Amrein-Boyes who is one of only 12 cheesemakers in western Canada and U.S. who has been inducted into the prestigious French Cheese Guild.
