UGM’s 25th Easter meal Saturday

The Union Gospel Mission in New Westminster will hold its 25th annual Easter meal Saturday.

The organization is expecting to treat 300 people to a holiday feast at the mission 658 Clarkson St. The doors open at noon with the meal being served from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The Easter meal, said a UGM press release, gives an opportunity to spark change in people’s lives providing a stepping stone into recovery for those struggling with addictions.

“The Easter meal is never just about the food,” said UGM chaplain Matt Hislop. “The pain of poverty is especially deep on holidays, so we want to make sure we are providing a safe place for those in our community who are struggling and may have a tough time asking for help. For many people that we see, all it takes is a meal to start to restore feelings of hope and safety.”
