Meet the real Easter Bunny and friends
Join in Easter fun for the whole family with rescue animals, spring crafts and an Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt in the exhibit gallery, at the Surrey Museum’s Easter Fair on April 19 from 1-4.
The event adds a twist to traditional Easter fun with an array of local animal rescue groups who team up with the museum to teach children and their parents about the “real Easter Bunny” and other animals. Families can learn about local wildlife and meet rescue animals, from rabbits to reptiles, dogs to birds.
The event was conceived as a fun way to tackle the problem of abandoned holiday pets.
Every Easter, adopted rabbits find themselves cast off or neglected as the novelty wears off and new owners realize that rabbits require just as much care as other pets.
The event began in 2007 as a way of educating the public on responsible animal care and adoption, and grew until it encompassed not just rabbits but other animals.
The animal rescue groups at this year’s Easter Fair include AireCanada Airedale Rescue, T&T Shar-pei Rescue, BC Exotic Bird Society, Surrey SPCA Education Centre, Small Animal Rescue Society of BC, Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team (CDART), BC Chihuahua Rescue, Cocker Spaniel Rescue BC, West Coast Society for the Protection and Conservation of Reptiles, BC Siberian Husky Club, and Urban Safari Rescue Society.
Special guests Vancouver Rabbit Agility Club will be showing off their athletic bunnies at 2 and 3 p.m. in the Museum’s plaza, weather permitting. Also, don’t miss returning guests Alison and George the Dancing Dog, who will also be performing live in the Museum’s plaza at 1:30 p.m.
The event is for all ages, with admission by donation.
The Surrey Museum is located at 17710 56A Ave.
