Joining the cherry blossoms currently adding splashes of vibrant colour to the city at the start of spring will be nine new street banner designs, unveiled at Monday's council meeting.

While more than 400 entries were submitted for the 2014 street banner contest, nine were selected as winners: Ellane Reyes (who had two winning banners), Max Lindenthaler, Beth Belcourt, Fabian Dominguez, Joel Baziuk, John Bates, Clare Scott and Craig Robison.

The winning designs were selected by a panel of community volunteers, with two designs chosen through community voting via Facebook.

All are original images linked to one or more themes: activing living, arts, culture, heritage, city centre, parks, nature and transportation.
