On Saturday, March 22 the Nelson branch of the BC SPCA will be holding its third annual Burger and Beer Karaoke Fundraiser at Finley’s Irish Bar and Grill.

For $15, attendees will be able to enjoy a beer and a local cruelty-free premium burger while also hearing some of the best singers in Nelson belt out some favourite tunes.

“I’m very gratified by some of the amazing singers and performers we have coming out – even if we only raise a few bucks, it will be a lot of fun,” said Rob Andrew, Nelson branch manager.

“As with all of our events, we have sourced cruelty-free local meat and this is going to be a better buy than your average burger and beer event.”

A veggie burger will also be served and many other beverage options (both alcoholic and non) are available in place of beer.

The fundraiser is directed at emergency and costly medical procedures.

“We have a very limited medical budget” said Andrew. “In our first year holding this event we raised enough to pay for an amazing dog named Ariel to get a costly but life-saving amputation of one of her legs and last year we had enough community support to pay for much needed dental surgeries for two cats.”

All of these animals are going as strong as ever, but there are always more animals that need help.

The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at Finley’s. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased in advance at the Nelson SPCA, Selkirk Vet, or at the door.

The Nelson SPCA would like to gratefully acknowledge karaoke MC extraordinaire, Joe Ringrose, Finley’s for holding the event, and the Kootenay Co-op for generously providing the cruelty-free beef. For further information, please contact the SPCA at 250-352-7178,, or drop by the branch at 520-C Falls Street, between 12 and 5 p.m.
