POETS SOCIETY

The Fraser Valley Poets Society (formerly the Poets Potpourri Society) hosts an open mic poetry reading on Monday, March 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at  Clearbrook library, 32320 George Ferguson Way. SINGLES TRAVEL CLUB

LEARNING PLUS

The Abbotsford Learning Plus Society holds two classes next week. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), 2499 McMillan Rd. The topic on Tuesday, March 18 is  “Medication Trap: How the Mental Healthcare System Creates Homelessness.”  The topic on Thursday, March 20 is “The Man Who Filmed Nessie.” Cost is $5 per class, plus the $2 ARC drop-in fee. SKILLS CONNECT

The Skills Connect Program for immigrants holds a free information session on Tuesday, March 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Abbotsford Community Services (2420 Montrose Ave.). The program helps participants with finding work in their field of expertise,  job-search techniques, courses and more. To register for the info session, call 604-866-0257

BETTER BREATHERS

The Mission Sumas Abbotsford Better Breathers Club meets Thursday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at Cascade Community Church, 35190 DeLair Rd. The group is for those living chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and/or asthma.

GENEALOGY SOCIETY

The Abbotsford Genealogy Society meets Thursday, March 20 at The Reach, 32388 Veterans ‘ Way. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the speaker will begin about 7 p.m. after the business meeting. Speaker Peter Whitlock from the B.C. Genealogy Society will discuss some little-used British sources to aid in search. Everyone is welcome.

RETIREES MEET

The Central Fraser Valley branch of the Federal Retirees (FSNA) meets on Thursday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly, 3145 Gladwin Rd. Guest speaker will be Karyn Santiago from Communitas Supportive Care Society. Info: Gerry at 604-820-9179

ONE-EYED TROLL

The popular entertainment troupe The Trollsons uses comedy, improv and audience participation to bring to life the Scandinavian tale The One-Eyed Troll.
