Surrey Museum celebrates Celtic culture
Experience all things Celtic this Saturday at the Surrey Museum.
Wear some green to this family-friendly lead-up to St. Patrick’s Day. Explore this rich culture with games, take-home crafts such as Loch Ness monster puppets, and salt dough shamrocks, or visit with the Westcoast Calligraphy Society, who will demonstrate Celtic calligraphy and letter visitors’ names on souvenir bookmarks.
The lobby will transform in to a lively Irish céilí, a traditional celebration of music and dance, kicking off an afternoon of live performances starting at 1 p.m. Community groups will share their culture and heritage with visitors.
This is the 1,000th anniversary of the death of Brian Boru, one of Ireland’s greatest heroes and the last high king of the country. Brendan Flynn of the Ireland Canada Monument Society will look at Boru’s legacy at a presentation from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in theatre. It’s $5 per person and pre-registration is required.
The Celtic Fest runs from 1 to 4 p.m. March 15 at the Surrey Museum, located at 17710 56A Avenue.
