LETTERS: Elected officials have skewed priorities
We have to do a better job choosing our municipal governments in Greater Victoria.
In View Royal we have Mayor Hill continually fiddling with beautification and traffic calming rather than addressing the root cause of transportation issues, namely insufficient road capacity and poor public transport. I guess the beautification is to give us all something to stare at while stuck on the roads he has narrowed.
As for Colwood, here’s a municipality for whom providing basic municipal infrastructure such as a sewer system for the majority of its residents seems as difficult as a mission to Mars. There seems to be a focus on green issues such as lots of rarely, if ever, used plug-ins for electric vehicles.
With a dismal voter turnout in municipal elections it’s not surprising that the usual suspects are continually returned by their retired and green supporters. The rest of us who actually have things to accomplish need to get out there and vote for municipal candidates that will focus on the fundamentals and co-operate with one another.
In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve.
