Buffet raises $2K for fire fund

More than $2,000 was raised for the New Westminster Fire Relief Fund at a benefit dinner held at De Dutch Restaurant last Friday.

The buffet was organized to raise money to support businesses destroyed in the Oct. 10 fire that felled three buildings at Columbia and McKenzie streets.

“The guests were from a wide range of people,” said co-owner Marie Jang in an email.

“We had a couple that absolutely had to come because they felt a great loss with Copp’s [Shoe Store] going up in smoke after they filmed a short film ... at Copp’s and also at De Dutch.”

De Dutch staff volunteered their time to cook and serve, as did staff from a new business neighbour to the restaurant, Fat Paint which was wiped out in the fire.
