John Robson elementary won the inaugural Festival of Trees competition at the River Market to raise funds for the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation and the New Westminster Firefighters Charitable Society.

Five New West schools decorated trees in a theme of their choosing with the community voting for their favourite by donating a canned food item. Robson won with 27 per cent of the votes.

The event was put on by The Stage New Westminster and the Quayside Community Board and brought in more than 45 cubic feet of canned food, seen here being packed up by organizers, to be donated to The Lookout Society and the New Westminster Food Action Committee.
