Colwood cougar causes commotion
Colwood residents are being cautioned to keep their eyes open after a cougar sighting early in the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 8 on Cotlow Avenue.
A resident in the 300-block had his home alarm triggered at about 1:30 a.m. The resident got up to see a large cougar walk through his yard, and then multiple other yards through the neighbourhood in the director of Metchosin Rd.
West Shore RCMP members looked for the cougar but were unable to find it. B.C. Conservation Services were also notified. School District 62 is also aware of the sighting.
Anyone who spots the cougar is asked to call the B.C. Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP) and the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
"Never try to approach a cougar, as it is a wild animal, it is unpredictable and dangerous," said Cst. Sarah Beckett in a press release.
