Students joining forces in fundraiser
Your holiday bottles and cans may be empty but when you donate them to dry grad, they are still full of cheer.
A bottle drive will be held at the Vernon Rona Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to support the Super Grad festivities at Kalamalka, Seaton, Fulton and Vernon secondaries.
“One hundred per cent of the proceeds will go to the schools to split equally for their dry grad parties,” said David Hesketh, one of the organizers.
On Sunday, residents will be asked to drop their empties off at the tent in the Rona parking lot, while Rona will provide a 15 per cent discount on any one item in the store.
“We will have a big bonfire and hot dogs, marshmallows, popcorn and hot chocolate available for those that wish to stay for a bit,” said Hesketh.
The school with the most votes will win a barbecue from Rona, which they can use at the school or raffle off for further fundraising.
“Students have been encouraged to contact their friends and family and get people to come down with their empties and vote for their school,” said Hesketh.
“Rona would like to make this an annual event as part of its wish to engage the community more by opening up its parking lot to fundraisers on the weekend.”
Besides Rona, event sponsors also include Signs by Elephant, Chasers Bottle Depot, Kiss FM, The Morning Star and Tim Hortons.
