Armstrong student achievements honoured
Four Armstrong students have been recognized for outstanding individual achievements.
Samme Groeneveld, Ella Brown, Sidney Cummings and Colleen Venables have been named recent recipients of the city’s centennial year recognition of excellence award.
Groeneveld earned her honour for winning a gold medal in the hammer throw competition at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.
Brown was also recognized for her performance in athletics. She won gold in the triple jump and bronze in the long jump at the 2013 B.C. High School Track and Field championships in Langley.
Cummings earned a gold medal for the top mark in B.C. for Grade 6 and Grade 6 classical voice exam, and for extraordinary represenation and achievements in multiple music festivals, provincial competitions and regional musical productions.
Venables was honoured for achieving first place at the Canadian National Music Festival; second laureate in the junior division of the Stradivarius International Violin Competition; multiple first place showings at B.C. performing arts festivals, and for extraordinary representation.
Mayor Chris Pieper presented the city’s recognition of excellence awards to Groeneveld, Brown and Cummings.
Venables was at a rehearsal with the Kelowna Symphony Orchestra. She will receive her honour in January.
