Yale Secondary trio makes gift bags for Salvation Army
Over a month ago, students at Yale Secondary School were assigned a task in their senior leadership class of finding a way to give back to their community.
Trio Shahnee Piers, with classmates Bailey Pedersen and Born Lee, set out to get donations to fill gift bags for those in need.
They spearheaded a drive in which they asked the student body to donate tuques, socks, scarves, and basic hygiene products such a toothbrushes and deodorant.
With all the donations made, more than 40 gift bags were created and distributed to those less fortunate at the Salvation Army on Saturday, Dec. 21.
"I really enjoyed this event. It went really well and recipients of the gifts really liked it," said Shahnee.
"Students want to give back but sometimes they need a push,'' said senior leadership teacher Soraya Rajabally. "This event provided a means by which students could be creative and find ways to help those in need in their own community."
