Burnaby school district raises $44K for typhoon victims

A Burnaby school district-wide effort has raised more than $44,000 for victims of last month's Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Students raised money among themselves and encouraged the wider community to drop off donations at local schools as part of the fundraising.

The vast majority of the money will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross, while $2,500 will be given to Hope International, for their aid efforts in the devastated region and will be matched by the federal government.
