Mission hospice open house Dec. 12

The Mission Hospice Society is hosting an open house next Thursday (Dec. 12) and is inviting the community to come tour the place of operation.

Located at 32180 Hillcrest Ave., across the street from the Christine Morrison Hospice which is situated on the third floor of Mission Memorial Hospital, the building serves as a place for hospice visitors to take a break or to relax.

The home was purchased by Mission's Cliff Rock, and the society was offered a low monthly rent. In addition, the Rock family paid for the renovations and for the required District of Mission permits.

There is a host of local residents who have donated their time and expertise to help the society, including John Retallick, who carried out all the renovations at no charge. Help also comes from Save-On-Foods, the Elks Lodge and more.

The society has been in existence since 1985, and staff and volunteers provide compassionate support on a daily basis, both at the hospice and within the community, for those living with terminal illness or dealing with the loss of a loved one.

The open house runs 3 to 6 p.m.
