Drop everything and read next week
On Oct. 28, School District 71 celebrates B.C. and National School Library Day with the seventh annual Drop Everything and Read.
With over 65 000 participants in school communities across B.C. last year, DEaR has become a regular celebration of literacy, libraries, and the pure joy of reading.
In conjunction with this, local secondary and middle schools are presenting Teen Read Week with a variety of activities at each location. This year’s theme is Seek the Unknown @ your library.
Writing contests, the All-You-Can-Read Buffet and daily trivia contests are a few of the many activities open to students next week. Research shows that teens who read for fun have better test scores and are more likely to succeed in the workforce.
Although teens realize the importance of reading, they have a wide variety of activities to choose from when deciding how to spend their free time. Teen Read Week brings a focus to reading for enjoyment.
