City of Castlegar Fire Department promotes from within
The City of Castlegar has announced that Sam Lattanzio has been appointed to the position of Deputy Fire Chief for the Castlegar Fire Department and will begin his new role on Monday, Nov. 4.
Lattanzio said he is looking forward to the new role and taking on new responsibilities.
"The main difference is that I'll be responsible for the complete operation of the department versus a company of guys as captain," he said. "It's definitely a huge commitment. With respect to the role I'm leaving with Interior Health, it was a big commitment, too, but with this one I consider this a passion and my dream come true. I look forward to doing it to the best of my ability and living up to the expectations of the role."
Lattanzio has been volunteering in the fire service for about 20 years, with the West Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Service in Montrose and, since 1997, with the Castlegar Fire Department according to a release from the city.
He currently holds the rank of captain within the department and brings extensive training and experience in all aspects of firefighting, emergency medical first response, emergency operations management and critical incident stress management to the position.
Lattanzio said he has a great role models and mentors in Fire Chief Gerry Rempel and Deputy Duane Monsen and said that he has "lots to learn" from the two.
