Family Law Act workshop
As part of a Legal Information series, Comox Valley Transition Society is offering a workshop on the new Family Law Act this Wednesday.
The new act overhauls the B.C. family law system and includes many changes. For example, the new act promotes cooperation between separating spouses and different ways of settling issues without going to court.
Terms such as “custody and access” are no longer used; instead the act talks about “guardianship, parenting arrangements, parenting time and contact.”
The workshop runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Community Justice Centre at Suite A-450 Eighth St. in Courtenay.
The workshop will be presented by family law lawyers Gordon White and Shannon Aldinger.
They will give an overview of various areas of the law, family violence issues, guardianship and parenting time, child and spousal support, and property division. There will also be time for questions.
For more information, call 250-897-0511.
