World Teachers Day on Saturday
There may not be any local celebrations of World Teachers' Day on Saturday, but that doesn't make it any less important.
"I am constantly in awe of the work that our teachers are doing with our students in their classrooms," said John Woudzia, the superintendent of the New Westminster school district. "I would encourage you to take time out of your busy schedule to think about World Teachers' Day or to find out something about this important day of recognition for our teachers."
World Teachers Day was first proclaimed by UNESCO in 1994 and is celebrated in more than 100 countries from Pakistan to Dubai to the small coral atolls of Tokelau, a territory of New Zealand.
"I am very pleased that an international level of recognition exists for teachers that serves to acknowledge the critical role they play in the intellectual, social and emotional development of our students," said Woudzia.
