Metropolis, Riverway Clubhouse go dark for Earth Hour

Metropolis at Metrotown mall will go dark in recognition of Earth Hour on Saturday, March 23 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Canada's second-largest shopping centre will see its facade shut off to conserve energy and promote its efforts in reducing its carbon footprint, including the use of high-efficiency LED light bulbs.

Burnaby's Riverway Clubhouse will also be switching to candlelight for the occasion, even offering a special candlelight dinner menu. Reservations: 604-297-4888 or www.burnaby.ca/clubhousereso.

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour. By 2008 the sustainability event had grown with 50 million people in 35 countries participating.
