Dates set for 2013 Transformations on the Shore carving competition
The 2013 Transformations on the Shore Chainsaw Carving
Competition will be held from Wednesday, June 26 to Sunday, June 30.
Since its installation on the wall at the side of the Tidemark Theatre in downtown Campbell River, last year’s “Itsy-Bitsy Spider” carving has become a talking point. Created by artist/carver Jesse Toso, this is a fine example of creativity and a tree trunk combined with talent, skill and knowledge (and a chainsaw or two).
The Frank James Park carving site is in a beautiful location along the Campbell River Seawalk in Willow Point. The artisans will be close-up as they “look into the log” then transform, by means of chainsaws and then more delicate tools, their chosen log into a legacy carving.
The event attracts around 30 carvers and there are great views of the site. There are four categories – Novice, Amateur, Semi-Professional and Professional.
Raffle tickets are on sale at the site – win a carving or lots of other great prizes! The contest brings many tourists to the community.
