Veritas students celebrate choosing of new pope

webbell.jpg

WHILE PEOPLE around the world celebrated the choosing of a new pope, students in Terrace joined them in their own way.

Veritas students each took a turn at ringing the Sacred Heart church bell after hearing that a new pope had been chosen March 12.

The children waited in line for their turn, some holding their hands over their ears.

It's an event that may not take place again in their lifetime; Pope Benedict XVI being the first pope in nearly 600 years to retire from the position, citing health concerns. He is now pope emeritus.

The last pope to resign was Gregory XII in 1415.
