Students at Jackson Elementary create tile mural
Jackson Elementary School unveiled its new mural on Thursday, designed and created by students with artist-in-residence Susan MacCallum.
Students designed the mural based around the school's mascot, a jaguar, depicted in the forest and the Canadian west coast.
Students drew different animals they wanted represented in the mural, which were then added to the larger picture.
"It's a really collaborative effort," said MacCallum.
MacCallum has been working with the school for about three months. In addition to the mural, she had students each paint a picture based on a story she told them.
MacCallum has worked as an artist-in-residence at various schools, including Terry Fox Elementary. She will start working with students at Clearbrook Elementary in April.
