Trio ‘over the top’ for air
Aldergrove’s Maria Andreatta took the 'Fight for Clean Air' all the way to the top in the BC Lung Association’s 12th annual Climb the Wall: The Stairclimb for Clean Air, which took place Sunday, March 3.
Participants’ lungs and legs hurt just thinking about it, but despite any pre-event jitters, 400 participants strapped on their running shoes and raced, ran or walked all 48 storeys to the top of the Vancouver Wall Centre in support of lung health and clean air.
This included Climb Team ‘Neon Tetras’ members Maria Andreatta of Aldergrove and her friends Kelsey Vanloo and Ashley Lancz.
Participants of all ages and abilities took part. The fastest 2013 ‘Climb’ time was 4:28, while overall climb times averaged at 10 to 15 minutes.
The ‘Neon Tetras’ put in a solid performance with Maria (10 minutes and 39 seconds), Ashley (10 minutes and 48 seconds), Kelsey (10 minutes and 4 seconds).
And in addition, they contributed a collective $700 to the cause.
To date the 2013 event has raised $110,000, in addition to the $1.4 million raised over the past 11 years.
Post-event fundraising continues until April 5. To make a donation, visit www.stairclimb.ca or call the Lung Association at 1-800-665-LUNG (5864).
All proceeds help fund vital lung health and air quality programs and research.
