To help kick off the planting season, New Westminster Plant a Row Grow a Row is hosting their 14th annual Spring Gardeners’ Party on Thursday, 6 p.m. at St. Thomas More Collegiate, 7450 12th Ave. in Burnaby.

Plant a Row encourages gardeners to donate a portion of their crop to the Food Bank for distribution.

The event has sprouted to attract more than 100 enthusiasts eager to learn valuable tips from experts like Brian Minter, the national spokesperson for Plant A Row Grow A Row.

Other speakers include Conway Lum, who will give advice on growing honey berries, Pasquale Porico who will talk about mason bees, Sharon Hanna on kale and Mike Lascelle will offer a tour on unexpectedly edible flowers and leaves. To help make the labour a little easier, June Hewko from Lee Valley Tools will also present some of the latest gardening tools and gadgets.

Admission to the party is free, although there will be a collection of non-perishable food items for the Food Bank
