Team Knockout vies for spot on adventure race
Shelley Strachan and Esther Sample are among the comox Valley residents vying for a spot on the Amazing Race Canada, set to air in the summer of 2013 on CTV.
The race will take competitors on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure across Canada, and the team feels they have what it takes to win.
Strachan and Sample are competitive martial artists holding red belts in Muay Thai and they are both undefeated in the ring.
They have taken their knowledge and training to the next level and are instructors at Knockout Martial Arts and Fitness in Courtenay. As a team, they also competed in the most recent MOMAR race and took first place in their division.
While they clearly excel as a team, Strachan and Sample have found just as much success on their own as they have together. Strachan has been drawn towards competitive sports for as long as she can remember, including horseback riding and long-distance running.
Sample is a talented artist and winner of the 24th annual Salmon Conservation Stamp competition.
As the winner, her artwork was used for the 2012-2013 federal fishing license stamp and was also featured on the front page of BC Outdoors Sport Fishing Magazine.
Both women are married with three children, and hope that if they make it onto the show their children will be inspired to reach for their own dreams. With their competitive natures and outgoing personalities, the ladies dubbed Team Knockout plan to give the Amazing Race Canada everything they’ve got.
The duo is asking for the help of the community to watch and share their application video, which can be found online at www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztGgkqQxRZI. Supporters can also follow the team’s official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/estherandshelley.
