A total of $4,200 was raised at a yard sale and Storage Wars-style auction on Saturday to help purchase land for a new orphanage in western Kenya.

Imani Orphan Care Foundation held the event on Blossom Court in Abbotsford.

The public was invited to bid on an abandoned storage unit that had been donated by Mask Mini Storage in Kamloops, but  no bids were received.

Instead, the unit was opened up and the items were sold individually. The unit contained three cabinets, two sewing machines, and several boxes that held items such as bible, pictures and ornaments.

The yard sale include items divided into areas such as a toy "store," a home decor section, and a clothing/accessories boutique.

The foundation will use the funds to purchase land for the new Imani Orphan Care Children's Home in the rural town of Ogembo.

The home will support 80 children currently in care, as well as many other children living on the streets in the surrounding area.

Imani held the yard sale for the first time last year, raising $3,500.
