Victoria Groff spends a lot of time thinking of others.

She’s always looking for new ways or opportunities to help out and to make her community a better place. And recently concluding she’s got a little extra time to spare—even though her schedule is already chock full—she’s hoping to joining more volunteer groups.

Groff is a full-time student in the process of completing her dream of being a trauma nurse. But while working toward that goal, she volunteers as an online facilitator for the Looking Glass Foundation which offers support for people suffering with eating disorders.

Groff is also a talented athlete, who is an avid soccer player and with the help of her coach-dad, organized a local women’s team (Richmond Chaos) that is currently in the midst of challenging for a metro league cup title. She is a defender and goalkeeper with the team.

Groff also plays for and volunteers with the Richmond Girls Softball Association. Whether it’s suiting up for her team, picking up bottles, working in the concession or singing the national anthem, she’s always willing to step up to bat.

Inspiration? “My dad inspires me every day. He works so hard at everything, and is a part of so many associations, yet still has time to be an amazing dad. He’s taught me so many lessons in life and is always there—like when I leave my cleats at home. He inspires me to achieve the goals I set for myself, and to be the best that I can be.”

Most proud of? “Giving back to my community. Recently I gave scholarship advice to a local Richmond softball team because most of the girls are in their senior year of high school. I hope the advice will help make their education choices a little easier. Since I pay for my education on my own, I understand how important scholarships and bursaries can be when it comes to school.”

Advice? “Always keep your head up. If you have the right kind of determination and mindset anything is possible.”

What historic figure would you most like to meet? “Terry Fox. He has always been a hero in my eyes, with a determination and strong will to strive for whatever he wanted to achieve. He’s an inspiration as an athlete, cancer research activist and a fellow Canadian. I feel like he could tell me what his secret was; how he stayed so on track with his dream and never backed down.”
