The ocean has come to Aldergrove

Parkside Centennial Elementary School and the Bertrand Creek Enhancement Society have worked together to bring a marine tidal pool to the school.

The "seaquarium" is a saltwater ecosystem of native plants and animals that include a few dozen organisms such as a sea cucumber, sea urchins, feather duster worms, scallops, a decorator crap and anemones.

"The seaquarium is like a magnet, drawing children of all ages and their parents who peer into its depths observing the plants and animals and their interactions," says Betty Wilson, Parkside teacher. "It sparks questions, conversations and imagination."

All of the species, and even the water, has come from the ocean just off the shore of Victoria.
