Gaming grants issued

Four local organizations have receiving Community Gaming Grants from the B.C. government worth a total of $152,800.

The groups include:

  • Lions Club of Abbotsford – $14,300

  • Kiwanis Club of Abbotsford – $24,000

  • Abbotsford Peer Support for Seniors – $31,000

  • Abbotsford Youth Commission - $83,500

“All of these organizations work tirelessly to serve people throughout the Abbotsford community. This funding will help these groups and the many volunteers within them to continue to provide their dedicated service,” said Michael de Jong, MLA for Abbotsford West.

Across British Columbia, 181 recipients will share $9,272,995 in the latest round of grants. Recipients in this round of grants include programs for Human and Social Services, Arts and Culture, and Environment.

Community Gaming Grants allow non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues. Last fiscal year, in 2011/12, the government distributed a total of $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services. More than 5,300 community groups benefited from funding during 2011/12.
