VANCOUVER – Castlegar’s Jack Yolland, FCA has been honoured with a fellowship by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia (ICABC). The fellowship (FCA) designation is awarded to chartered accountants for contributions to the community and service to the profession.

Jack Yolland became a CA in 1949, and joined Campbell, Shankland and Imrie as manager of the firm’s office in Trail. In 1960 he became the firm’s senior partner, and brought in two new partners to form Yolland, Soligo & Byers. The firm now continues as Soligo & Associates.

In 1969, Yolland accepted a teaching position in Selkirk College’s business administration (BA) department, and for the next eighteen years he taught accounting and other business courses—the exception being a year’s leave in 1975, when he completed his MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the College in 1982, and retired in 1989. Notably, while serving as BA department chair from 1979 to 1984, Yolland obtained approval for Selkirk’s accounting courses to qualify for the CA and CMA designation programs.

Throughout his career, Yolland was committed to representing CA members in the BC Interior, and for over seventeen years served on several ICABC committees. He also volunteered with the Interior CA Club and the Okanagan and Kootenays CA Clubs.

In the community Yolland has been a charter director of the Kootenay Society for Handicapped Children in Creston, and helped develop the Trail Youth Hostel. He was also a member of the Trail Rotary Club for twenty years, organized tax clinics to support local seniors, and contributed to the Rossland Light Opera, both onstage and off. Today, he continues his membership with Castlegar Senior Citizens, his twenty-two year role as a “Snow Host” at Red Mountain Resort, and his twenty-five year involvement with the BC Seniors Games Society.
