The goal? To end homelessness

RCMP, firefighters, students, MLAs and the homeless faced off in 20-minute hockey games in North Surrey on Feb. 5 afternoon as part of Toque Tuesday Hockey Day.

The second annual event, which took place at Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, was held in support of national Toque Tuesday, the day in which Canadians are asked to "put a cap" on homelessness.Toque Tuesday

This year's event featured eight teams. The public showed its support by donating new toques, winter shoes or boots, coats and warm socks.

Surrey firefighter Tim Baillie said the games have become so popular that next year's event will be a full-day occasion.Toque Tuesday
