Lots to do in Burnaby on Family Day

It may be a new holiday on the calendar, but there will be plenty of family activities in Burnaby on Family Day, Feb. 11.

Burnaby Village Museum and all of the city’s recreation centers will have special programming from badminton to Zumba.

Burnaby Village Museum will be holding Family Day at the Carousel, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each $6.50 admission per person includes unlimited rides on the historic C.W. Parker carousel as well as the opportunity to stroll the streets, shops and homes of Burnaby as they might have appeared in the 1920’s. There will also be art activities and heritage games for the kids.

Bonsor Recreation Complex kicks the day off with all-ages badminton at 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Other activities throughout the day include a Zumba party for kids 5 years of age and up, accompanied by an adult, family yoga and gym as well as family swim.

Cameron Recreation Complex will have family-friendly activities like parachute games, face painting, riding toys and open play 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Kensington Arena will have a special family skate from 12-3 p.m.

Lougheed Town Centre will host two free shows by beloved kids’ entertainers Bobs & Lolo, followed by a meet and greet. The performances are at 12 and 1:30 p.m., near London Drugs.

The Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre won’t have special programming on Family Day, but they’ll be putting on their ninth annual Jan Ken Pon! Family Games Day on Saturday, Feb. 9. Kids will try traditional Japanese games like tops and cup & ball, as well as constructing sumo wrestlers and beanbags. The highlight of the day will be the rock-paper-scissors tournament. Unfortunately reading won’t be on the agenda for Family Day, as all branches of Burnaby Public Library are closed Sunday, Feb. 10 and Monday, Feb. 11.

Families with energy to burn may want to check out the bowling at Revs Burnaby. The centre has a $40 holiday family special for 90 minutes of bowling, including shoes, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit
