Adams Road Elementary sets path for student leaders
A keynote address, guest speakers and breakout sessions were among the items on the agenda at a Grade 7 student leadership conference last week at Adams Road Elementary.
The two-day event – entitled The Leader in Me – focused on personal and social responsibility, along with leadership topics for students.
Set up in a true conference format, the students heard a keynote address from Dr. Jordan Tinny, Deputy Superintendent of Surrey Schools, and took part in a range of group activities and breakout sessions with presenters that included Adams Road staffs, along with guests from the YWCA, YMCA, Safe Schools, and more.
Topics covered included leadership qualities, community connections, teamwork, stress management, setting goals, and responsible decision making.
And of course, no conference would be complete without some downtime – the event concluded with a movie night in the school gym.
Student leaders at Adams Road are involved in school activities and events, from monthly assemblies and school-wide team activities, to spirit days, charitable fundraisers and other events.
