Valley schools engage in 'bloody battle'
A Comox Valley inter-school blood drive challenge will help to ensure an adequate supply for those in need, says Canadian Blood Services.
On Feb. 5 starting at 4:30 p.m. students will donate blood at the mobile clinic at the Florence Filberg Centre (411 Anderton Ave.) in Courtenay.
It's part of a blood drive challenge between G.P. Vanier Secondary School, Mark R. Isfeld Secondary and Highland Secondary School.
Canadian Blood Services needs communities to rally together this winter because it takes many donors to help save a hospital patient. The CBS anticipates that many Canadians will respond to a call for donors in February — and many will be new donors.
The demand for blood and blood products will continue to grow and to meet Canada’s future blood needs we must encourage more Canadians to become regular blood donors now, states the CBS.
Canadian Blood Services is a national, not-for-profit organization that manages the blood supply in all provinces and territories outside of Quebec and oversees the country's OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network.
